Study Program Arabic Language and Literature

The Arabic Language and Literature Study Program is one of the programs established by the Faculty of Humanities and Culture, Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang. Its implementation is based on the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Institutional Guidance (DIRJEND BINBAGA Islam) No. E/107/1998 dated May 13, 1998. On June 16, 2007, the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program received an “A” accreditation status based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) No. 010/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XV/S/I/2013.

  • GRADUATE PROFILE
  1. Possessing integrity in religious values, linguistic scholarship, and literary studies.
    Mastering adequate language skills as a means to broaden perspectives in knowledge, Islamic studies, arts, culture, and civilization.
  2. Having a deep understanding of language and literature.
  3. Mastering linguistic study methodologies and literary analysis.
  4. Able to utilize linguistic knowledge and methodologies, as well as literary analysis, to study, analyze, and appreciate Islamic literary works.
  5. Able to apply language proficiency and mastery of linguistic and literary knowledge to pursue and develop various relevant professional fields, such as translation, teaching, linguistics, journalism, analysis, and literature.
  • GRADUATE COMPETENCIES

a. Strength of Faith and Spiritual Depth

    • Having true faith in Allah, the Angels, the Scriptures, the Prophets, the Day of Judgment, and divine decree (qada’ and qadar).
    • Developing remembrance (dhikr) and reflection (fikr) upon qauliyah (revealed) and kauniyah (natural) phenomena.
    • Having a strong commitment to fulfilling Allah’s commands and avoiding His prohibitions.

b. Nobility of Character

    • Thinking, speaking, and acting in accordance with Islamic values.
    • Having a sense of responsibility, self-respect, integrity, the ability to socialize, and mutual respect.
    • Having a sense of nationalism, appreciation for diversity, social solidarity, and a strong concern for nature and the environment.
    • Thinking and behaving in a scientific and creative manner.

c. Breadth of Knowledge

    • Having the ability to use Indonesian correctly and appropriately in academic contexts.
    • Having basic proficiency in Arabic as a tool for studying Islamic sciences.
    • Having advanced proficiency in Arabic language skills.
    • Having a good understanding of the history of Arabic literature.
    • Having a good understanding of the culture and civilization of Indonesian society, Muslim communities, and Arab societies, as well as possessing cross-cultural understanding.
    • Mastering linguistics as well as theories of Arabic literature and culture.
    • Able to utilize linguistic knowledge and methodologies, as well as literary analysis, to study, analyze, and appreciate Islamic literary works.
    • Mastering the fundamentals of Islamic knowledge as a foundation for reasoning and academic development.

    • Having a professional attitude and the competence to perform work effectively.
    • Able to apply language proficiency and mastery of linguistic and literary knowledge to pursue and develop various relevant professional fields, such as translation, teaching, linguistics, journalism, analysis, and literature.
